The Story of Wild Tree Teas

Ancient wild teas hold a wonderful & mysterious spirit, that of deep Nature.  Tea plants, Camelia sinensis, when grown in natural conditions absorb the pure descending “Yang” light energy of the sun, moon and stars into their leaves.  From their roots they absorb upwards the ascending “Yin” energy of pristine water, metals and minerals from the Earth.  Botanicals connect us with Nature and with our bodies. Within each tea leaf then we have the “mysterious other” an alchemical meeting of Heaven and Earth. The tea leaf is delicately picked by human hands, dried, preserved and stored.  Quietly, patiently, it holds onto its vital essence until we add hot water and drink it like thirsty birds at water’s edge.

2022 高阳碧峰 Gāoyáng bì fēng Green Tea

Gao is tall, lofty, high altitude.  Yang is sunlight, sun-lit, the solar principle. Bì fēng means flat leaf.  This is a high altitude 5,000 ft above sea level organic tea produced in Sichuan Guangyuan Wangcang County National Nature Reserve on the south or yang side of Micang Mountain.  The tea leaf is flat shaped like a traditional Longjing Dragonwell and has a soft green to light yellow cup color that is bright, fragrant, aromatic, redolent, and full of warm herbaceous flavor that lasts a long time on the palette.  A very pleasant tea with good yin yang cooling warming balance. Let’s call it neutral or harmonious.  It brings us back to our center. The high mountain reserve where it grows imbues the tea and the native tea drinker (that would be you) with a refreshing clarity of mind as if standing on a great mountain looking South to the sun at solar noon while taking in the fresh air and a spectacular view.

2022 野生红茶(滇红) Wild Ancient Tree Black Tea

From the Natural Reserve Gengma County, Yunnan and growing at an altitude of 6,500 ft above sea level this organic tea leaf is curly and long.  It yields a pleasant reddish amber cup of tea that is bright, fragrant, floral and fruity like peach or apricot.  The Ancient Tree Black Tea is warming in nature versus a green tea that will be more cooling. A very pleasant tea that seems to be immediately likeable by all. Let’s call it soft, harmonious and full of joy for it opens the heart. There’s something special about drinking tea from an ancient tree that is 200 or 300 years old.  In each cup you will find the tree’s spirit offers some gem of wisdom if we can pause quietly enough to listen.  We suggest drinking this tea daily until you can hear the voice of any tree and take up a conversation.  They are alive after all and outlive most of us.

2022 品野生紫芽白茶 Wild Purple Bud Tea

Ancient tree wild purple bud tea is from the wild tea community in Lincang, Yunnan.  This tea is grown at an altitude of 9,000 ft above sea level in the primeval forest of the National Nature Reserve. There are no roads, and only rugged mountain paths can be climbed by foot. The annual harvest is very small.  These teas are collected from the wild ancient tea trees early in the month of March every year.  Wild purple bud aroma elegant, floral, fresh and high sweetness (sweet is the unique characteristics of wild tea) astringent feeling is very light, lasting flavor, suitable for all kinds of people, and anthocyanin content is high.  Being “purple” it contains both blue and red, water and fire, yin and yang, cooling and warming.  It holds the opposites! Very mysterious indeed and on the border of being mildly psychotropic in my opinion, yet you can still drink this tea with grandmother.
