Autumn Wind Changes Direction

Autumn Wind Changes Direction.jpg

This image floated in this morning over a silent cup of tea. Cinnamon, ginger, jujube, black pepper, cardamom, clove brewed into a Theasophie dark pu’er from the jungles of Southern China. It was a moment of “stillness on the outside, feeling the movement on the inside.” While at first my mind pre-conceived this drawing it quickly broke free with it’s own rebellious spirit and intention which is the sign of a good piece of art in my opinion. The black squares smeared off to the right as my sleeve cleared the pastel dust from the page and from there I let the image guide the way. Yellow signifies the waning summer fire; blue the incoming presence of water. They are in balance for the moment at equinox but that will quickly change. The water of cold damp dark winter will increase in and around us. I find I am resisting this change of season to some extent. I mean it is literally a natural death from the youthful green sproutiness of spring and the colorful jubilant summer. Now we are required to change direction. You could fly away to Hawaii or something like that but then we would miss the depth and transformation of nature. I’m ok with following the cool autumn wind. To follow submissively the path deep down into the cave of the earth, into Hades. I have a stable healthy fire that I have been cultivating all summer long (see Vivaldi Concerto In Qi Minor) and I should make it through to the next spring.
